Art of Academic Publishing: Do's and Don'ts - practical advice for successful publishing
On Monday, April 28, we hosted a lecture in CENTREPEACE Art of Academic Publishing: Do's and Don'ts, led by Assoc. Monika Brusenbauch Meislová, Ph.D., and Kateřina Šipulová, Ph.D. The event focused on the challenges of academic publishing, the peer-review process, and specific strategies on how not to lose motivation while still publishing effectively.
On Monday, April 28, 2025, we hosted a lecture at CENTREPEACE titled The Art of Academic Publishing: Do's and Don'ts, on the strategies and pitfalls of academic publishing.
The event was led by two renowned guests - Assoc. Monika Brusenbauch Meislová, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Social Studies of MU and Kateřina Šipulová, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Law of MU. Both of them drew on their extensive experience in publishing in prestigious journals and leading research teams.
Doc. Brusenbauch Meislová offered a series of concrete "do's and don'ts" in her lecture - from setting realistic expectations, through the writing process and overcoming creative blocks, to managing the review process. She emphasized that the key is to start writing before the research is "perfect" and not to be afraid to edit an incomplete first draft.
Doc. Šipulová focused on strategic journal selection, the specifics of the review process, and the differences between generalist and specialty publications. She also addressed practical issues - how to look credible to reviewers, how to respond to feedback, and how to create a plan B in case of article rejection.
Both guests also encouraged participants to keep mental well-being in mind, set realistic goals, and not be afraid to ask for feedback or support from colleagues.
The lecture was part of the CENTREPEACE project's series of activities aimed at supporting female and male researchers in the social sciences.
