Visit of Professor Vladimir Gel’man to Masaryk University: Teaching, Discussion, and Strengthening Cooperation
Professor Gel’man’s visit to MUNI strengthened cooperation with Helsinki and supported CENTREPEACE activities.
From 21 to 25 October 2025, the Aleksanteri Conference 2025 took place at the University of Helsinki, this year under the title Extremisms: Ambiguities, Ideologies, Agency. The CENTREPEACE project was represented at the conference through two research contributions.
The Aleksanteri Conference 2025 was held at the University of Helsinki between 21–25 October 2025, focusing on Extremisms: Ambiguities, Ideologies, Agency. The annual conference brings together scholars and practitioners to discuss political, social, and security developments in Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia.
The CENTREPEACE project was represented by two contributions:

The Clash of Diffusions: The Interplay of Domestic and International Factors in Political Changes of Eastern Partnership Countries
🟦 Panel presentation:
The Geometry of In-Betweenness: EU Engagement Without Recognition in the De Facto States of Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and Transnistria
These presentations contributed to the broader discussion on political transformation, international influence, and democratization challenges across the Eastern Partnership and post-Soviet region — core themes of CENTREPEACE’s research agenda.
At the end of the conference, the topic of the next year’s Aleksanteri Conference 2026 was announced:
Mapping Security in Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia. Fault lines and frontlines.
The upcoming conference will take place under the auspices and in cooperation with the CENTREPEACE project, which will play a role in its organization.
