CENTREPEACE Meetings in PRIO
During the week of 28 October to 1 November, a series of impactful CENTREPEACE meetings took place at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), bringing together researchers and Ph.D. students from Helsinki and Brno.
RMA Breakfast – Evaluation of Science at FSS MUNI
The guest of the RMA Breakfast on evaluation of science at FSS MU (Faculty of Social Science, Masaryk University) was David Šmahel, who held the position of chairman of panel 5 in the national evaluation of science and is a vice dean for strategy at FSS MU. He shared his insights from the position of chairman, and he further discussed how the evaluation of science at the faculty level works.
On 18th November, the RMA Breakfast on evaluation of science at FSS MU was held. This topic was directly connected to the previous RMA breakfast, where the expert from Masaryk University discussed the national and university-level evaluation of science.
The guest of this event was the vice dean for strategy at FSS MU, who also held the position of chairman of the expert panel 5 – Social Sciences of the National Evaluation of Science. Thanks to this position, the attendees of the event could gain another insight into the national-level evaluation and to better understand the results of the evaluation. It was explained that the evaluation is, in a way, an indicator of how the science in a country fares compared to other European countries and that the science should aim towards a higher quality of research results, which means publication in journals of higher quality. The results of the evaluation can also indicate which fields of study fare better in the Czech Republic
The second part of the presentation discussed the setting of the evaluation at the faculty level. This gave researchers attending the event the opportunity to hear how their work is evaluated and what value the outputs of their activity have. The presence of the vice dean for strategy as the event’s distinguished guest provided an excellent opportunity to initiate a constructive discussion on ways to enhance strategies for achieving higher evaluations. Additionally, it sparked a thoughtful dialogue on refining the evaluation system to ensure greater fairness and inclusivity, particularly in acknowledging and integrating research outputs.
Overall, this event enabled attendees to understand how their work is evaluated and what are the main focus areas to achieve better results and be more successful in the international scope as well.
